Who We Are
I founded Norton Law Corporation with one simple idea: make high quality legal services available to creatives and entrepreneurs at a reasonable price. All too often, I’ve heard stories of shockingly high legal fees—I’ve even had clients who nearly had to shut down their businesses because their former lawyers’ fees were outrageous. It doesn’t have to be that way.
Some time ago, I read a fantastic article on why entrepreneurs hate attorneys. It listed five or ten reasons, but a couple of them really stood out to me: communication with clients, extraordinary fees, and a general inability to help in any constructive way. At Norton Law Corporation, we’re committed to our clients and we’ve worked hard to address those problems.
You’re probably wondering how.
Let’s start with communication with clients. People complain attorneys never listen, speak only in legalese, and just don’t care about their needs. Not me. I strive to change those age-old opinions about attorney communications and compassion. You have a question? I have an answer. And while I try to avoid legalese as much as possible, there are some times when it’s just unavoidable—but if you don’t understand, let me know and I’ll explain the concept as well as I can.
Fees are an interesting issue, mostly because a lot of attorneys are uncomfortable talking about them. Not me. At Norton Law Corporation, we offer a most of our services at flat fees. We also offer an hourly rate for those jobs that cannot be done on a flat fee basis or for clients who prefer the old billing style. Because we know one size does not fit all when it comes to businesses, we offer myriad billing arrangements, including deferred billing and monthly retainers. We like to make sure our clients know roughly how much their legal bills will be before signing our fee agreement. No surprises, that’s our goal.
Finally, we come to the problem that most clients face: what are attorneys even good for? According to some, attorneys crater deals. But I founded Norton Law Corporation as a way to help my clients—not get in the way of their dreams. That’s why I believe in solving problems instead of just pointing them out. When issues arise, I direct my clients’ attention to them and present at least one way of solving them. After all, what good is pointing out a problem if you don’t help them solve it in a constructive way?
